Representaion Supposing Books Fruits Basket, Vol. 17 (Fruits Basket #17)

This one was a slow volume once again but damn the revelations were tough. So many things were revealed and came out into the open; I’m kind of mind blown to be honest. *lol* Wow, just… W.O.W.! Maybe the pacing was slow but damn did this issue pack a punch. XD

Thoughts to the highlights of this volume:

- Kureno’s sacrifice broke my heart! I understand why he can’t leave Akito but boy did it make me sad to know that he loves Uo-chan but can’t be with her. T_T This felt like a punch in the face!

- THAT REVELATION ABOUT AKITO!!!! OMG!!! O_O (view spoiler)[WHAT?!! AKITO is actually A GIRL!!! A GIRLLLLLLLL!???! OMG!!! I would have never guessed and now I have so many questions! Why did his/her parents decide to raise her as a boy and why aren’t the others supposed to know? (hide spoiler)]

- I already said it and I’ll say it again: Yuki and Machi’s love story gives me LIFE!!! <333 I want them to be together so badly it’s starting to hurt! *lol* So please Natsuki Takaya, can you write them as a couple soon?! XD

- Kyo-kun handing Tohru that paper flower as an apology! *dies a thousand deaths and is happy*

- Shigure!!!
I AM MIND BLOWN!!! What did I just read and did anyone see my brain?
(view spoiler)[I always knew that Shigure and Akito don’t get along all too well but damn, behind all this anger and hate there is actually LOVE!!! I never saw this coming! They seem to love each other and yet they both did things that hurt the other. *sighs* I can understand where Shigure is coming from though. I mean if he truly loves her and she decided for Kureno instead of him it’s kind of understandable that he acts the way he does. >_< Mhmm I wonder if they’ll ever find back to each other. (hide spoiler)]

I’m really curious about the next volume now!! XD

Evaluate Containing Books Fruits Basket, Vol. 17 (Fruits Basket #17)
This volume has the big reveal of probably the most important secret in the whole manga: Akito's gender. It's one of those reveals which changes your viewpoint on everything which came before it, which made reading this whole manga again pretty interesting. Knowing that Akito is much of a victim of her upbringing and just as trapped as the rest of the zodiac members does change my opinion of her, although it doesn't excuse her more violent actions. It also shines more of a light on her

Some excellent explanation into why Akito is the way he is--it was nice to get a better idea of his character, since up until now he's really just been this menacing force in the series with no real idea of why he's like that. As always, some great character development while they interact with each other, good stuff.

A bold move, attempting to redeem that character. I've seen enough discussion online to know that it worked, at least for some people. And yet, I can't help but think: "Cool motive, still multiple counts of verbal abuse and psychological torture."

Favourite Character: ShigureKureno watches the video of Sorta Cinderella and calls Tohru. She is not home but Shigure agrees to arrange a meeting, then asks Kureno if he has been released from the curse. When Tohru meets Kureno, she realizes that birds fly away from him, and he admits, while embracing her, that he has not been the rooster since his mid-teens, though he does not know why the curse was broken for him. Kureno again declines to see Uotani, even though he wants to, because when Akito

This is a nostalgia series for me. There are definitely flaws and some things that don't hold up now as the series grows older, but it remains one of my favorite manga of all time (hence why it'll get five stars regardless). The characters are engaging, beautiful, multilayered, and wonderful. Seeing their journeys grow and change really hits me. There are some pages in the later volumes that really, really hit me hard even now and flash me back to that time when I first read them. This is

Giving this a 4-star, mainly because enjoyment-wise, this volume wasn't something I enjoyed all that much compared to the previous volumes despite all the secrets dropped on us.Wow, Kureno. Can I give him a title like "The Person Who Shall Reveal Secrets"? Seriously, this volume's biggest plot twists came from him. I remember the first time I read this and I was like "HOLY SHIT THAT DID NOT HAPPEN!... *a few pages down* OMG THAT DID NOT HAPPEN!... *a few pages later* DAMN IT KURENO HOW MANY PLOT

4.5 stars. Even though I loved the story something about the layout of the panels and dialogue in this volume didn't feel a clear as I wanted. Maybe this is just a volume I will need to re-read sometime.
