Rabble in Arms is Robert's very worthy novel set during the Revolutionary War in upper New York. If you had high school history classes similar to mine this book provides proof of how cursory and in some instances falsely those textbooks were in providing an appreciation for how we became the United States. I would strongly recommend this book. This is my third Roberts book and I intend to read all of them.

I have a long history with this book. In eighth grade we read both this and Oliver Wiswell In U S History. Even then, showing a side of the Revolutionary War that deviated from the stereotypical heroes versus villains tale, it was different enough to penetrate our brains as something of value. Now reading this book forty years later I am surprised at the depth of this book. Honestly I question if in todays environment you could teach this book at that grade level in any place but the most
